ProtoHype is a research oriented studio course that involves new contexts and themes that rather require radical than incremental solutions. The course is organized around two extensive main foci. One is based on a foresight a few decades ahead. The second on a solution designed for a more contemporary context that points in the direction of the first. The end results of the course are physical products conveyed by both digital media and physical models.
Among those new contexts, changes due to future climate changes might be one of the most challenging issue to handle for today's design students. Many projects are therefore based on a strong belief that we need to practice designing products that are more in tune with the nature we all depend on. We hope that we thereby can facilitate a discussion about how we in Norway can make designs that are more relevant for all of us regardless where we happen to live on our common globe.
